The head of the family received the title Duc de Clermont-Tonnerre from the French king in1775. In all, the family holds 2 ducal titles, 2 princely titles, 6 marquessates, 8 comital titles and 10 other titles, mostly baronial. The first princely title awarded to the head of the family was that of Prince de Tingry in 1631. The title Prince de Clermont-Tonnerre is a pontifical title awarded in 1823 and held by all descendants of the first prince in the male line.
