Through his mother (Princess Claude of Orléans), he has extra lines of descent from King Louis-Philippe of the French, additional ties to the House of Coburg (descended from Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha-Koháry), additional ties to the Spanish Bourbons (King Carlos IV) and Austrian Habsburgs (Holy Roman Emperor Franz II), additional ties to Bourbon-Two Sicilies (King Francesco I) and descent from Isabel, Princess Imperial of Brazil (meaning that he's related to the entire House of Braganza).
I believe, then, that this prince is related to all the Protestant royals of Europe (to which the Romanovs belong, genealogically speaking). Interestingly enough, one of his Catholic ancestors (Ferdinand-Philippe, Count of Paris, eldest son of King Louis-Philippe of the French) married Duchess Helena of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
He also is directly related to almost all the Catholic dynasties of Europe. However, there is one major exception: the House of Wittelsbach. Imagine, then, if he had married (instead of the morganaut Princess Olga of Greece) one of the five daughters of Prince and Princess Max, Duke and Duchess in Bavaria ...
Does anybody know of his nearest link to the Bavarian royals? It seems that one would have to go all the way back to the so-called "Sun King" Louis XIV of France (House of Bourbon), whose eldest son (the Grand Dauphin Louis) married Princess Maria Anna Victoria of Bavaria. But I have trouble in tracing the Witteslbach genealogy, when going further back than the royal house (founded by Maximilian I Joseph, Elector-turned-King of Bavaria) and the ducal branch further back than his namesake son-in-law ...
Does anybody know of closer ties? Given that King Maximilian I was married to two German Protestant princesses, and that his eldest son and successor (King Ludwig I, through whom the royal line survives today) likewise married a German Protestant princess, it could be that his ties to the Wittelsbachs are only indirect, through the Protestant relatives in his ancestry.
