That's very nice she's recovering well. Hopefully the same for the Price of Venice (above post).
The Infanta has confirmed to a Spanish news agency that she has undergone surgery for a color cancer, but that she is doing well (divinely, in her own words). But she refused to make comments about her brother’s retirement.

It's sad in a way to see the King retiring from public life but, of course, totally understandable due to his physical conditions. I wonder if there hadn't been all those scandals 5/6 years ago if he wouldn't be abdicating at this very moment.
It was also surprising to see him representing his son in so many occasions after the abdication, travelling to Belgium, Norway, Romania and even Cuba, and most recently to Luxembourg. Hopefully, Queen Sofía will continue to carry official engagements. One wonders if Infanta Elena won't be asked to show up more often.
And how sad about Infanta Pilar. Do hope she'll be able to recover from the present situation.
I think it has to do with his physical conditions. He can hardly walk and he has always thought he did not want to be seen that way.
In a letter sent to his son, the King, he has announced his retirement from public activities from June 2nd, the 5th anniversary of his decision to abdicate the Crown.

Furthermore, it has been published that Infanta Pilar is receiving treatment for an intestinal cancer.
Is this for reasons of health or lack of popularity given the reasons behind his abdication?
