"This exquisite set of jewels was made to order for Ferdinand VII, King of Spain, the year 1812. It was a gift to the Queen in commemoration of the expulsion of Napoleon from Spain at that time. It remained the Royal property and was part of the Crown Jewels of Isabelle II who reigned in Spain from 1843 to 1868. It was also part of the Crown Jewels during the reign of King Alfonso XIII of Spain who started his reign in 1901 and who abdicated in the Revolution of 1932. It was part of the collection of jewels which Alfonso determined to dispose of after his exile with the intention of raising a huge fund to start a counter revolution against the Spanish Socialist Republic. This fund was raised in France and was used to finance the Franco Rebellion against the Spanish Republic which eventually culminated in the recent Spanish Civil War. These jewels were disposed of through the Spanish Ambassador who was a Royalist and were bought by a French Broker who brought it to this country for sale.
This is the history we have, not a guarantee of provenance."
