On April 15th 1969 Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain died in Lausanne, exactly 38 years after leaving Spain.
Born HH Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg into the British Royal Family, she married King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1906.
By chance, I have found a video of the wedding I had never seen. There were only some scenes of the carriages but, in this video, you can see guests arriving in carriages and leaving the church. Among them, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Queen Mother Maria Cristina with Princess Beatrice and finally the bride and groom, who left the church on the carriage of the crown.
Thanks for this find, Manuel. I can't help but wonder if Mateo Morral was in this film clip hiding somewhere amongst the crowd lining the route waiting to strike.
She was buried in Lausanne until 1985, when she was transferred to El Escorial. After around 20 years at the Rotten Chambers, her remains where moved to her final rest at the Pantheon of Kings and Queens.
Do you know if she is buried opposite Alfonso XIII?
