I never got a clear answer about this, but was she allowed to receive Holy Communion at Catholic masses, even after allowing her two children to be baptized and raised Orthodox? I read that she and her husband (King Boris) received a dispensation to marry, and their wedding took place in Assisi, Italy. Evidently the understanding was that all their children would be raised as Catholics (although I'm not sure if a promise was made).

As it was, the Vatican was furious when learning of the christening of their first child, Princess Marie Louise, three years later, as she (unlike her aunts and uncle) was baptized in accordance with the rites of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The reason for my asking is that the unfortunate Catholic King Ferdinand of Romania was denied Holy Communion at masses for 20 years, for allowing all six of his children to be baptized and raised as members of the Romanian Orthodox Church. If nothing else, given the Salic law operating in both countries, one would think that at least the daughters would have been raised as Catholics ...

As it was, pressure probably got the better of both royal couples, so as to commit the breach (in Romania, only the heir was supposed to be raised Orthodox).
