The owner of the then just bakery was a very small and cheerful woman named Constança Gomes.
The name "Piriquita" (parakeet) comes from the nickname D.Carlos put on her due to her size and cheerfulness.
D.Carlos loved her "queijadas" and encouraged her to dedicate solely to the pastry which she did and 160 years later, the house is a success and a must for each Sintra visitor.

The foundation of the Order of Christ was the expedient King D.Diniz used to allow the Order of the Templars to remain in Portugal after the Pope decided to abolish it.
