I've not been able to find any connection between Saint Louis and Peter I either and while Peter II has his maternal Brunswick-Lunenburg line i have not come up with the link between him and Louis IX either.
Some time ago, somebody posted that all Catholic royals are descended from him. I have no doubt that this would be true of all Catholic royals TODAY. But when was the approximate time from which point one could claim that ALL Catholic royals descended from him?
The reason for my asking is that some time ago, somebody noted that practically all the European royals (regardless of religion), excepting those of Montenegro, descend from the Catholic monarchs of Spain (i.e. Queen Isabel I of Castile and King Fernando II of Aragon), mostly through their second daughter ("Juana la Loca"). I was surprised to see, among them, Czar Peter I ("The Great") of Russia and King Maximilian I of Bavaria.
Peter I of Russia certainly surprises me. As far as I'm aware his ancestry was entirely Russian or Tatar. I don't know where any connection with medieval France came in.
Did the RECONQUISTA monarchs perhaps descend from the famous French crusader king? I know that his mother (Queen Blanche) was born Infanta Blanca of Castile. But I'm not sure if the traffic of royal marriages went in the opposite direction, so that French royals married into the Spanish dynasties, in time for King Saint Louis IX would show up in their ancestries.
Both monarchs descended from Louis IX. Isabel I had lines of descent through both her parents as each of them descended from the English Plantagenets who were themselves directly descended from King Louis through Isabella of France, the mother of Edward III of England who was the direct ancestor of Isabel. Ferdinand II descended from Louis IX through his father who was directly descended from a daughter of Louis IX (Blanche of France) who married into the Castilian royal family.
