Regarding the t.v. company, PBS, the U.S. gov't does not control it. It is mostly funded by private donations from, as they say, 'viewers like you' is their motto. A very small percentage of the company is funded by the U.S. gov't.
After watching the video it is obvious that, even if PBS is a public tv station, the US federal government does not rule it. For US standards, it can be considered a quite “liberal” report. The only Spanish polititian interviewed, that Miguel Urban, does not belong to a left party, but to an extreme left party, being him one of the most radical members.
About the King’s intervention, he has already signed the Royal Decree-law allowing the exhumation. That is all his role in this situation.
The most recent episode is the Government trying to press the Vatican to avoid Franco being buried at the Almudena Cathedral. That would be a terrible PR campaign for the Govt. Having his remains in the city centre is clearly a bad “business”.
I found an interesting news segment regarding Francisco Franco on the American (U.S.) public t.v. company, PBS. This subject was previously discussed on a thread here at the Franco-Iberian Message Board. In addition, the subject of the king of Spain's possible involvement regarding the reinterment of Franco's body was also discussed on this segment.
