Never heard of a Coburg involvement in Mexico.
As to Brazil, the Coburgs might have grabbed another throne.
After several searches and a couple of notorious refusals, Emperor D. Pedro II had "imported" two princes for his 2 daughters : Pr.August of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha for Pss Isabel (the heiress) and Pr. Gaston d'Orléans for the younger Pss.Leopoldina.
But D.Pedro II, as a liberal Emperor and loving father, refused to impose his will to his daughters and gave his eldest daughter Isabel first choice.
After meeting the 2 cousins, Isabel choosed to marry her sister's fiancé and the sisters swapped their pretenders.
Gaston, as a good ambitious Orléans was delighted to become the future Emperor-consorte.
August was naturally disappointed, specially because he was commanded to stay in Brazil until Isabel had her first son.
Isabel and Gaston had extreme difficulty in producing a son, their first child having been born after 10 years of marriage, so August and Leopoldina's eldest son was appointed as heir presumptive.
August was delighted and felt revenged, but when Isabel and Gaston had their first son, August suffered a second cold shower .
However, his eldest son was always the Emperor's favourite grandson.

When Brazil and Mexico had imperial rule, Braganza in one while the other had Hapsburgs, I understand that the Cobergs were somehow involved in both of these imperial situations. How so?
