With the exception of Maria Vladimirovna and her son Georgy Michaelovich all other Romanovs are the result of marriages that were not deemed good enough (read the spouses were not part of [former] reigning dynasties). That excluded their offspring from succession.
In Tsarist Russia those relationships were not even legal so the offspring was illegitimate. Because they all married abroad the marriages were legal in other countries but the wives and children were not part of the Romanov dynasty.
There has been some debate if Grand Duke Vladimir's wife Leonida Bagration was royal enough but as the head of the House he could decide over that. Nicholas I also deemed Maximilian de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg equal enough for his daughter Grand Duchess Maria Nicholaevna.
In time Grand Duke Georgy will declare his wife equal so she can be a Grand Duchess and their son a Grand Duke. Previous Message
A statement was made recently that the grand duchess Marie and her son George Romanov were dynastic royals. It appears other Romanovs weren't dynastic. How is this so, please?
