Of course, the press have been known to manipulate stories. Shocking I know!
A father should have the right to name his daughter anything he wants. However, its not unreasonable to expect a certain level of common sense! Previous Message
Surely the Duke did register her daughter with 2 names. Birth registrations are done immediately after the birth. You can even do it at the hospital where the child is born. Baptism takes place weeks or months after the birth. When this girl was baptised with all those names, she was already registered.
But a good story for the press. Not only the British. It also appeared in the Spanish press. Previous Message
This appeared in the British press as one of those "quirky" stories, because it sounds so ridiculous (to the English speaking mind).
I now see that in Spanish Law you are only allowed 2 Christian/Forenames.
But if this is the case why did the duke not just register his daughter with her first 2 names and have done with it? I assume the duke is familiar with Spanish Law especially since this is his second child.
I suppose this leaves the remaining names in limbo. The child was christened with all 25 names but are technically unofficial.
All very interesting! Previous Message
Actually, he had no problem. The Spanish law only allows two names. The rest are not in the ID. For example, King Felipe is Felipe Juan de Borbón y Grecia in his Id card. She is legally Sofia Fernanda. That’s all.
I do not know the source of the news. Not your post. I also read about it. Previous Message
Fernando Fitz-James Stuart Duke of Huescar recently failed to register his daughter's birth because her name was too long, an incredible 133 characters.
What is this obsession amongst royalty/nobility for having so many names?
How are passports/id cards issued to people in this situation?
