As it was, the Bavarian rules required "equality", as a term for a union being dynastic; otherwise, the said union would be morganatic. And before World War I, the standard -- as in most reigning dynasties -- was that the spouse come from a family which was either royal or reigning. Auguste, despite her pedigree, was clearly neither: and indeed, my understanding is that her marriage to the prince was originally morganatic -- de-morganatized only later on. In 1949, Crown Prince Rupprecht (by then head of the house) recognized it (along with the marriage of his own son and heir, Albrecht) as dynastic.
Anyhow, whatever might be said about the prospective status of the marriage, I was just wondering if, from a personal standpoint, any of Prince Adalbert's relatives said anything against it. As of 1919, the deposed King Ludwig III of Bavaria was still living: one presumes that since the union was in contravention to the existing house laws (backed by the constitution), consent was irrelevant. I've been told that it was neither sought nor withheld.
