It's natural to assume that the tallest boy in the photos is the eldest, the future King Ludwig III of Bavaria. But an older child is not always taller than a younger child -- especially if they're not far apart in age. The two eldest daughters of Prince Alfred of Great Britain (second son of Queen Victoria) were also separated in age by only a year. As it was, the second daughter ("Ducky") quickly overtook her older sister ("Missy") in height.
