a) I meant in more recent times (like the Philippos case)
b) Not necessarily direct ancestors. Christian X, the duke of Connaught and Gustav V and VI were Pss Margreth direct ancestors.
The last I recall (with direct ancestors) was Felipe of Spain who counted as godparents his gr.grand-mother Q.Victoria Eugenia and her son/his grand-father the Count of Barcelona.
But then:
a) they were direct ancestors
b) there was a clear political message. The future king was held by the last Queen, V-E, and the rightful King, the CoB.
Compared to that, Philippos is a "nobody", the 3rd son of a deposed king living in exile, who happened to be very well connected.
Neither JC nor Elena, nor Philip DoE nor Diana were Philippos ancestors.
So, for the sake of the argument, in recent years, were there any father/mother and son/daughter not direct ancestors of the child acting as godparents ?
There are plenty of examples in the Danish royal family, for instance Queen Margrethe. Her godparents include:
• Christian X, Queen Alexandrine and their son Prince Knud of Denmark.
• The Duke of Connaught and his daughter Lady Patricia Ramsay.
• Gustaf V, his son Gustaf VI Adolf and even his son Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden.
