Crown Prince Oscar (later King Oscar I) of Sweden and Norway married in 1823 Josefina of Leuchtenberg. Josefina remained a Catholic. In those days, a Swedish citizen who converted to catholicism would have been exiled. Oscar I and Josefina were never crowned in Norway, because the bishop of Trondhiem wouldn't crown a catholic Queen, and King Oscar refused to be crowned if the Queen wouldn't be crowned.
