Re: "Titular King of Ireland"

At the time of the Flight of the Swans the O'Neills were lords of parts of what is now Northern Ireland. And, prior to the English intrusion, there had never been a Kingdom of Ireland, nor a King thereof. Moreover, the old title of High King was not restricted to a single family. Presumably the Portuguese who recognise the O'Neills of Clanaboy as "Titular King of Ireland" are entirely unaware of the claims to (pre-colonial) kingship exercised by families such as the O'Connors.
