It has struck me that King Maximilian II of Bavaria (father of the infamous "mad" kings, Ludwig II and Otto) somewhat resembled Prince Albert of Great Britain, consort of Queen Victoria. Those two would have been at least distantly related. Does anybody know how? I know that Duke Franz of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld was a first cousin of King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia. But the latter was the paternal grandfather of Queen Marie, not her husband. I also see a slight resemblance between Maximilian and King Christian IX of Denmark. As with Victoria's husband, religion would have been irrelevant, and one would expect that the Danish and Bavarian sovereigns would have been at least distantly related. Does anybody know the closest relationship between those two?
