It seems that the only main genealogical tie between the Grimaldis of Monaco and the established dynasties of Europe is through this German house. Grand Duke Karl married Stéphanie de Beauharnais, adopted daughter of General-Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte. Among their descendants are the royal families of Belgium, Luxembourg, Romania, Serbia, Monaco, and two branches of the house of Habsburg.
One of his older sisters, Princess Karoline of Baden, became the first queen of Bavaria as the consort of King Maximilian I Joseph (she was his second wife, but Bavaria was not yet a kingdom during the lifetime of his first wife, Princess Auguste of Hesse-Darmstadt). Her daughter Amalie became the queen of Saxony as the consort of King Johann. Another daughter, Sophie, became the mother of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria; the present imperial line of the Habsburgs descends from her. Yet another daughter, Ludovika, married into the ducal branch of the house of Wittelsbach; two of her daughters became queens (Elisabeth of Austria and Marie of the Two Sicilies). Also, members of the present day houses of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Belgium, and Luxembourg descend from her.
Are there other notable connections to the grand duchy of Baden?
