Wasn't India a Kingdom for a short period after gaining independence?
Well, yes and/or no. From 1948, George VI was styled as King "of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas King", not spesifically as "King of India" or "King of Pakistan".
And the Indian state was called the "Union of India" or the "Dominion of India" before the Republic was established 26 JAN 1950.
Who was the Head of State of India 1948-1950? And was his title King or President?
