The monarchy was re-established in 1920, but the throne was vacant. There were some plans to later allow Archduke Otto, Karl IV' son, but these plans were never realized. And after the Second World War, Hungary became a communist republic.

What was the royal status of Hungary after 1918 when Austria-Hungary dual monarchy ceased to exist? Emperor Carl retained some royal titles??
