Re: The rule of Parliament

It was more a question of the government saying that it is absolute primogenitur, or no change at all. An introduction of female successional rights without making Princes and Princesses totally equal was not on the table. And making Sweden a republic was definitely NOT on the table!
Previous discussions on these royal message boards: it was so long ago, that I can't recall the name of the poster. I'm not sure if the person cited his own sources.
Lawsuit or not, the king has been known to express vocal disapproval of the measure. Yes, I know it's not so much opposition to female succession per se but rather, the retroactive application of the new law -- notwithstanding the fact that the procedure of changing the law had already been in operation, when his son was born.
As it was, Parliament worded the ruling by declaring that Victoria had to be the crown princess, no matter what (that was how the NEW YORK TIMES reported it, confirmed by e-mail correspondents and other posters on these message boards).
No, the King didn't file a lawsuit. And no, the Parliament did not introduce a bill to abolish the monarchy. There was never an ultimatum. Where did you get all these ideas?
