This is from Wikipedia and I know it’s not the most reliable source. “The successor house styled itself formally as the House of Habsburg-Lorraine (German: Habsburg-Lothringen); because it was often still referred to as the House of Habsburg, historians use the appellation of the Habsburg Monarchy for the countries and provinces that were ruled by the family until 1918.“
To me the word formally means that there was some legal recognition or official decree or declaration that established the name of the Royal House, similarly to George V of the UK declaring the name change from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor. Or was there no formal recognition or establishing of the Habsburg-Lorraine name? Or is the Habsburg-Lorraine name an invention of histriogrophers?
Maybe the same that write Habsburg-Tuscany or Habsburg-Este
