Queen Maria of Roumania's younger son (Pr.Mircea) and possibly her youngest daughter Ileana, could have been fathered by her lover Count Stirbey.
No, the case for Stirbey fathering the said daughter is a weak one, since Ileana had blue eyes, just like King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. Indeed, the count regarded and treated the princess with the same avuncular affection he displayed toward her older siblings.
Things were different with Mircea, to whom he showed special care and devotion during the boy's illness (he died of typhoid fever in the middle of World War I). Plus, the little prince had brown eyes -- which is genetically impossible for a child born to two blue-eyed parents.
It has been said that Duchess Fleur of Württemberg (youngest child born to Princess Diane of Orléans) also has brown eyes, despite her mother (by marriage the Duchess of Württemberg) and Duke Carl (head of the said royal house) both having blue eyes.
This fact, of course, cannot but raise questions about her biological paternity. She, too, is a likely royal cuckoo (although the Duke has evidently accepted her as his legal daughter).
