As was his right. Nicholas I decided that the marriage of his daughter Grand Duchess Maria Nicholaievna to Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg was equal demonstrating that in the end it was the Tsar as Head of the Imperial House had the freedom to make such decisions unlike for instance the Austrian Emperor who had a list of acceptable families to deal with and that was it.
GDk Wladimir only married GDss Leonida two years later in 1948.
Was he already dating her by the time Irakli wanted to marry Maria de las Mercedes ?
BTW not all the Romanov family accepted the Wladimir-Leonida marriage as equal, but then Wladimir was the (disputed) head of the family and he decided it was equal.
Yes, it was. The Count of Barcelona consulted with Grand Duke Wladimir, who confirmed the Bragations were royal. Well, if not, his marriage would not be dynastic, either
Was his marriage in 1946 to Infanta María de las Mercedes of Spain (1911–1953) a dynastic one, from the Spanish standpoint? Who was consulted, as to whether a Bourbon and Bagration were *equals*? Whose consent was sought, for the union?
