British grant of ‘Royal Highness’

Henry of Battenberg was born an Illustrious Count, later upgraded to HSH Prince and finally received the so ambitioned HRH when he got married, a title granted by his m-i-l, that was never recognized in his homeland, and that even outranked him in regard of his elder brother who even got downgraded from HSH to mere Right Honourable and Most Honourable.
What do you mean by “not recognize”? Why wouldn’t a perfectly valid style granted by a monarch with whom Hesse surely had good relations not be recognized there?
My perspective is that in the listing of members of the family in the Hessian state handbook wouldn’t show ‘HRH’ alone at risk of it seeming like a Hessian style, but I am pretty sure that it was noted that he had the British style of ‘HRH’... and not just limited to use within the United Kingdom.
