He never actually held any power which is the main reason why he rebelled against his father in 1176 along with his brothers who wanted more territory of their own. Henry II was a total control freak who wouldn't share power with anybody. His eldest son's coronation was purely symbolic to acknowledge him as his heir. Historians have never acknowledged him as a king in his own right. It would be his nephew, the son of his youngest brother John, who would become Henry III.
