I believe the late Countess Mountbatten of Burma and her sister Lady Pamela Hicks signed a visitors book in Germany as princesses Patricia and Pamela of Battenberg once. I don't know who posted it but it was to the best of my knowledge posted on one of these boards years ago.
Im not sure if it is legally possible in the UK to reverse the altered family name back from Mountbatten to Battenberg and if UK law would allow them to start using a foreign title not used since 1917 and that was given up in order to receive a domestic peerage.
We all know that the Princes of Battenberg (a morganatic branch of Hessen) renounced their titles and were given British peerages. But I wonder if it was a formal renunciation, or if they just stopped using their German titles (who, BTW, were abolished in Germany after the first world war).
Would it be possible (even though highly unlikely) that the Marquess of Milford Haven, to start using the title Prince of Battenberg?
