Hopefully they might be all in the Bank of Portugal vaults, waiting for the hideous conclusion of the west wing of Ajuda Palace to be in exhibition.
There is a possibilty some were hidden in the Pena Palace, or so the story/legend says.
A couple of years ago, a man approached the Secretary of Culture, claiming he was a descendant of one of the men who helped hiding the jewels and, with the descriptions his ancestors left, he identified how to get access to them.
Naturally, he asked for a reward and the recognition of his contribution for the discovery.
The secretary dismissed him on the spot.
Either the Government is very sure of the pieces at the Bank's vaults or a treasury will go on undiscovered.
