Very interesting indeed! Thanks, Janet. It certainly seems easy to see why President Putin would see Alexander III as a role model. I would think Nicholas I would also be among his favorites, as that tsar's state ideology of "Orthodoxy, Autocracy, Nationality" seems very much in tune with his own. (The problem, though, being that he fought a losing war against the Western Powers in Crimea, so we may be unlikely to see such a statue any time soon!)
