: this that the Order had distributed condoms to prevent AIDS?
Almost definitely not - although it makes for "good" (i.e. sellable) newspaper copy.
The full reason for the Grand Master requesting the resignation of the Grand Hospitaller has not been made public. Part of the reason is the distribution of condoms by a programme he administered. Part is the allegation that the Grand Hospitaller was not completely forthright after this came to light. But there are also various other rumours about large donations.
The German Association, to which the Grand Hospitaller belongs, has (I believe) no members who are knights of justice (those who take religious vows and are eligible to be elected Grand Master). Some people allege that the German Association (headed by Prince Erich Lokowicz, son of the famous philosopher Prince Nikolaus Lobkowicz) wants major changes in the structure of the Order. Lobkowicz has been very forceful with some of his comments in response to these allegations.
