: You seem to be suggesting that the Head of the
: Family will suddenly show respect for the
: traditional rules of succession, when in the
: past decade there is no evidence of this.
:
: The King has never respected the Romanian
: laws of succession. He gave his daughters
: succession rights against the laws set down
: when Romania was a monarchy.
:
: Then King Michael made his grandson an heir
: and gave him a title and then took it away
: at whim, with no proper explanation. The
: King’s daughter Irina had inheritance
: rights, then those of her AND her children
: were taken away at whim because of an
: indiscretion on Irina’s part, not her
: children.
:
: When it comes to succession rights, Michael
: has behaved like a family dictator, gifting
: rights and then taking them away from
: individuals when it suits him.
:
: It is creating a dangerous precedent for his
: descendants and given Michael’s own problems
: with his half sibling and his descendants,
: you would have thought he’d know better than
: to store up future family conflict.
:
: I’m not sure why we should assume, then that
: after Margarita, her sister Elena’s
: descendants will have priority in the next
: generation. Surely it will be whoever is
: best suited to cooperate with Margarita and
: Radu?
:
: At the moment that seems to be Margarita’s
: youngest sister.
:
: If we assume Nicholas is out for good (being
: called immoral by her grandfather is hard to
: recover from, unless Nicholas can twist that
: his grandfather was controlled by Prince
: Radu, that might work given Radu’s
: unpopularity), why would Karina get mixed up
: with her grandfather and aunt and commit
: herself and her future to Romania?
:
: After what happened to her brother?
:
: Nicholas put in a decade of work trying to
: re-brand himself as a Romanian and a Prince
: and it all got ripped away from him.
:
: On a separate note are Irina and her
: children just going to sit back and allow
: the others to inherit everything when the
: King dies? I am sure that a canny lawyer
: might be able to assist them and cause lots
: of problems and drag matters out in an
: embarrassing way.
:
: Of course we could see the resurgence of
: Nicholas when the King dies. Will he
: position himself as an alternative to his
: aunt and her unpopular husband?
:
: On paper the King and his eldest daughter
: have managed to position themselves at the
: heart of Romanian society. If Margarita had
: children of her own, it might have been
: easier but she doesn’t.
:
: By behaving the way they have done, the King
: and Margarita have potentially created
: powerful enemies within their own family,
: who could cause significant problems in the
: future.
:
: You would have thought they would have
: planned better.
I have begun to get the distinct impression that, given his autocratic and erratic behaviour towards his own family, King Michael would not necessarily have made a good constitutional monarch for a modern, democratic Romania.
