All Austrian, German and Hungarian titles descend exclusively in the male line, with the single exception of territorial non-sovereign dukedoms (Trachenberg - Hatzfeldt family, Teschen - Piast, Lorraine then to Saxon and finally to Austrian imperial family, Sagan - Talleyrand, Troppau - Liechtenstein, etc) and princely titles, of which there are fewer - Putbus being one (and in 1951 the German nobility association confirmed the succession of this title from Malte, to Wylich und Lottum, to the present heir, now called von Putbus).
