: Is it certain that the Carlow line really was
: laced in the line of succession? I do not
: believe this to be the case. The Carlow
: line's assumption of the title was accepted
: by the last hereditary Grand Duke, but his
: brother Christian was not consulted as would
: have been required under German house rules,
: and he married Princess Barbara of Orussia
: four years after the Count of Carlow's title
: was recognised. Christian went on to have
: two daughters but in my opinion the Carlow's
: title did not give them dynastic rights.
: Mecklemburg would have been absorbed into
: Orussia under the terms of a 17th c treaty.
Count Georg von Carlow was adopted by his uncle Duke Carl Michael (11 Sep 1928), which would give him the legal name of Herzog zu Mecklenburg;
On July 18, 1929, Grand-Duke Kirill, Head of the Imperial House of Russia, cr. him (a Russian title) Duke of Mecklenburg and a Serene Highness; On December 23, 1929, former reigning Grand-Duke Friedrich Franz IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (d.1945) also recognised the forme Count of Carlow as a Duke of Mecklenburg, thus making him a dynast of Mecklenburg… ;
On Dec 18, 1950, Duke Georg assumed the style of Highness (due to all dynasts) following an authorisation of Hereditary Grand-Duke Adolf Friedrich…
In my opinion this is no way diferente to the de-morgantisation of the Hochberg in Baden or the Leutenberg in Schwarzburg…
But did Duke Christian ever oppose his father's decision? Did he ever protest against Duke Georg of M-Strelitz (Count of Carlow) using the Ducal title?
I've never seen anything saying he did... The eldest daughter of the late Duke Christian even is the godmother of one of the sons of Duke Georg Borwin...although this might meen nothing.
Duke Georg, G-Borwin's father had already been recognised a member of the dynasty by Adolf Friedrich and Christian Ludwig's father... why would Christian be consulted again?
Regarding G-D Friedrich-Franz decision of 1929 on the extinction of all other dynasts why would the succession not go to the Strelitz line?
Why would it go to Prussia given the existence of male dynasts?
If it was in Bismarck's time for sure he would not miss the chance (and giving good profit to the doubts raised by some people) to add one more duchy to the voracious Prussia, like it did to Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg (not to mention Hannover, the Electorate of Hesse and Nassau)...

: Thanks. I was not aware that the title was a
: new, Russian, creation. In the Online Gotha
: it is said that Georg (1899-1963) assumed
: the title Duke of Mecklenburg and that this
: was confirmed by both Grandduke Cyril of
: Russia and the Hereditary Grandduke of
: Mecklenburg-Schwerin (I would assume that is
: Friedrich Franz and not Christian Ludwig but
: I am not sure).
: Nothing said about the Prussians indeed.

: AFAIK, the current Dukes of Mecklenburg are
: such because the title is a Russian creation
: for the Counts of Carlow.
: The Prussian Royal Family were and are in
: remainder to the throne(s) of Mecklenburg
: and, as such, could be considered dynasts.
: Their permission was not sought so, if one
: wants to be nit-picky, the demorganatization
: never occurred. I think few people care,
