: I have an old edition of Chambers's
: Encyclopaedia (1895) that says:
: his rule was arbitrary and despotic, and in
: 1839 he was compelled to abdicate in favour
: of his son Milan (died the same year).
: Before he abdicated the Turkish minister of
: Foreign Affairs and the Russian ambassador
: at Constantinople had drawn up a
: constitution, curtailing the power of the
: prince and giving much authority to a senate
: of the nobles.
Thank you. Interesting that he, and not his son, was given the opportunity to acceede to the throne when Aleksandar Karageorgevitj was deposed.
