The weirdest still are the Iberian marriages. Maria da Gloria's son from her marriage to her paternal uncle marrying her sister (his maternal aunt and paternal first cousin).
Isabel II marying her first cousin with both their fathers being brothers, their mothers being full sisters and their maternal grandmother being a sister of their father and their maternal grandfather being a first cousin of his wife and her brothers (who became his sons-in-law).
: I also would have liked it if Louis XV had
: married Marie-Antoinette's sister Elisabeth
: after the death of Queen Marie Leczinska.
: Unfortunately the archduchess caught the
: pocks and was disfigured. Before it she was
: considered to be a good-looking woman.
: Having a grown sister as Queen/dowager Queen
: at court would have made Marie Antoinette's
: life a lot easier.
: I know there have been stranger marital
: arrangements but I think it would have been
: quite peculiar for the Queen's sister to
: also be her step-grandmother-in-law...
