When we went for dinner we met our ambassador in the company of two guys from Vienna. These guys told me they are here to perform the very next day songs from the "Merry Widow" by the famous Austrian composer Franz Lehar in a ceremony lifting the ban on the "Merry Widow" by Prince Nikola Petrovic. I was intrigue and yesterday I got the newspaper with an English translation.
And indeed King Nikola of Montenegro (the last reigning monarch) had in 1905 banned the " Merry Widow" because the King was offened that the main character Danilo was moddelled after Crown Prince Danilo of Montegero, his son, and portrayed as a playboy being after the money of the merry widow.
In a ceremoy in front of the Palace Petrovic at Krusevac ( that is a quatier of Podgorica) Pricne Nikola II Petrovic Njegos symbollically removed te censhorship . Theer was a cocktail and two arias and a ballet were performed.
I think that is nice story.Maybe you like it too
