Re: Their Grand Ducal Highnesses
The two who succeeded got HRH by becoming the reigning Grand Duchesses, and the the ones who became HRH by marriage was because of their marriage. So yes, the logical answer is if they did not succeed to HRH or marry HRH, they retained their birth rank of HGDH.
As I understand it, the six daughters of Grand Duke Guillaume IV of Luxembourg and Infanta Maria Ana of Portugal were born to the qualifying rank of Grand Ducal Highness. However, I believe that four of them eventually got elevated to the qualifying rank of Royal Highness -- correct?
The first two, after all, eventually succeeded to the throne as reigning grand duchesses. Princess Antonia married Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria (eldest son of King Ludwig III) in 1921, and Princess Sophie married Prince Ernst Heinrich of Saxony (youngest son of King Friedrich Augustus III) in the same year.
I'm assuming, then, that Princesses Hilda and Elisabeth were the only ones to remain Grand Ducal Highnesses (since they both married Serene Highnesses). Is that true?
