The two main languages in the country are the native Letzebuergish and French. Though Letzebuergish might sound very Germanic it is a mixture and French names are very common in Luxembourg. Of course English and other language variations on names have become more popular over the years the French versions of names have remained popular also in the normal population.
In Groussherzogtum Lėtzebuerg, the reigning family obviously prefer French. The newborn Prince is called Charles, not Karl, and his father is Guillaume, not Wilhelm et cetera. What is the reason for this?
