Unlike you im not fine with the Dutch taxpayer ending up with the bill. We already provide the Queen-consort with an annual income consisting of functional costs and a private salary. If the UN does not pay for her charity work than HM ought to pay for it herself from the private salary part of her income and not put the bill to the Dutch taxpayer.
Yes 150.000 euro is nothing on our national budget, but also only a small percentage of people make that annually in public service. HM already receives more than that and needs no top up of her income that rises every year just like that of other people in the public sector.
Useful info. I would have expected that the UN itself refunds this kind of expenses, but if it is left to those countries where the special ambassadors are citizens of, that's fine by me. It isn't that much anyway.
Over the years I have often asked, also on this Board, how the UN compensates various royals (and in this case: Queen Maxima) for their work & travels.
Never got an answer or people just said we should appreciate everything that's done for the UN.
Well, of course, but there's a pricetag for everyting in life!
Now it has emerged that the Dutch government pays 150,000 Euro per year for travel and hotel-expenses for the Queen and a member of her security forces. Approx. 10 trips annualy.
The Ministery of Foreign Affairs can't explain exactly why that amount never has been specified as such ...
