The Dutch Royals always claim to be so in love with Africa and both former Royal Consorts (Bernhard & Claus) had a deep and long-lasting affection for Africa. Not only due to up-bringing (Claus) or hunting (Bernhard) but also the current King used his skills as a pilot to spend many weeks during his summer holidays (some years back) helping the 'Doctors without Borders' out there.
Princess Irene bought a large estate in Africa and spends part of the year there, also using the retreat for tutoring/educational purposes.
WA and Maxima wanted a summer home in Mozambique but they had to both abandon their plans and the villas due to strong opposition in the Netherlands as the immense costs caused much controversy!
However, there has never been the slightest hint of any of these royals wanting to set up a Fund with the sole purpose of helping the popuplation in Africa
The Prince Claus Fund comes close but is also contributing to South America & countries in the Far East for cultural & educational causes.
So, what's the difference with the Belgian Royals who are actively involved in the King Baudouin Fund?
Thanks for any answers!!
