Part genes, part diet and lack of regular, strenuous exercise, mental state and hormones. So many factors determine weight. Emma was quite heavy in her thirties and forties (Regency years) while she slimmed down in her 60s. Wilhelmina gained weight from her thirties onwards and became square or round as a ball. Beatrix was chubby as a teen and became thin when she dated and married. She stayed in good shape for years until her late fourties/fifties then she gained weight again. Now she seems to be slimmer than she was years ago. King Willem-Alexander was thin until he had to take medication for his illness. I think that triggered it for him. His metabolism must be very slow as he is very active (runs several times a week) and seems to be on a permanent diet at home with Maxima being very wary of carbs....
