SPOILERS AHEAD...
Shadowland started off well for MK. We got to see him working behind the scenes gathering info for the Secret Avengers and fighting a few ninjas. Then, Shadowland: Moon Knight starts up and Hurwitz begins rewriting MK's role in the main story by putting him directly into the battle with DD and sending him off to New Orleans to track down a macguffin capable of defeating The Beast who has possessed Daredevil.
Steve Rogers tells MK the macguffin will be handed over to Ghost Rider who can use it to kill The Beast and save the day. Yay Moon Knight! Despite that terrible return of Randall Spector nonsense, you managed to do something important that ties in with the main Shadowland story!...Oh, wait a sec...Never mind, no you didn't.
We get to the final issue of Shadowland, MK is nowhere to be seen and, guess what, neither is the macguffin. Ghost Rider shows up to fight The Beast, seemingly unaware that he is fighting an immortal demon god, breathes some fire on him and proceeds to have his ass handed to him in record time. In the end, Daredevil/The Beast is defeated by a love tap from Iron Fist and a pep talk from Elektra. No macguffin, no kick-ass Ghost Rider fight, no Moon Knight. Essentially, nothing Moon Knight did during this entire event had any impact on how the story ended. In the end, it seems like Moon Knight was never supposed to be involved in this story in the first place.
It's almost as if Diggle saw where Hurwitz was going with his mini and decided to write MK completely out of the story because he didn't like what Hurwitz was doing. I don't blame Diggle if that's the case since Shadowland was, ultimately, his story to tell and Shadowland: Moon Knight did turn out to be pretty bad. However, Shadowland didn't turn out very well either.
Even without mentioning Moon Knight, the whole thing seemed drawn out, uninspired and pointless. There was never any payoff. I might have picked up these books as a Moon Knight fan wanting to see Moon Knight, but that doesn't mean I didn't also want to see Ghost Rider, the Punisher and Daredevil doing some MU-impacting kick-ass stuff too. Unfortunately, none of that ever happened and I'm out 20 bucks.
Booo.
