I found the Deadpool issues to be weaker, but they served a purpose. DEADPOOL is a killer. He was taunting MOON KNIGHT and at the same time, he is what MOON KNIGHT fears to become: bloodthirsty and insane. He is MOON KNIGHT's opposite number in a way. DEADPOOL plays the part that PUNISHER ahd in the 1990s: representing JAKE/MARC's darkness. Just like SPIDER-MAN or CAPTAIN AMERICA represent his heroic ideal (clean, non-brutal hero) and the team up with Spidey will serve that purpose: big action story with MOON KNIGHT continuing his road to redemption.
In the first five issue, we had a semi-stable, somewhat happy, relatively balanced MOON KNIGHT who struggles against his inner demons.
I am a recent fan of MOON KNIGHT (but I did pick up ESSENTIALS, read the Huston/Benson run and some of 1990s stuff) and I like the character. I like that he is disturbed. I also like that things are going well for him for a while. I actually do not mind seeing the main character not ending an endless buffet of crap sandiwches.
In my opinion, Hurwitz did a good job. But that is just my opinion.
