I have currently finished “Their Eyes were Watching God”, and have found that the lack of white people and racial issues for a book set in the 1930’s with a head strong, independent, black women in the south is not very plausible. Zora Neale Hurston was criticized by her fellow writers when this book was released because she didn’t address racial problems. I would like to know how other readers feel about Hurston’s choice to not address such an important issue that took place during this time period.
