I agree. I have seen Halle play these kinds of parts before . . you know . . the old "I'm working my po bones off in da fields" kind of part so, seeing her as Janie was not at all refreshing. Beautiful she is, that's a given, but does it take beauty to involve spectators in the character of "Janie" or does it take true depth of character. In other words, I don't think that Ms. Berry or even the entire production lived up to its hype.
