At the age of 48 I am finally able to go to school. Yes,obtain a formal education. Since I was fourteen I knew I wanted to go to school, but when you are married at fifteen and your new mother in law announces, "You're a married, and you don't need to go to school", you show respect and keep your dreams in check. Thank you Jesus, this is the second om my two life dreams. Having children and now going to school. My lack of formal education has been a slight deturrent; however the hunger I feel and unquenchable craving for knowledge is like a rainbow after a bad storm! I just have to keep persuing it.
At best information, my english 101 instructor has assigned the class to read Zora Neale Hurston's; Their Eyes Were Watching God. I have read the forward comments, the preface information, the website siting biography and chronology and other information on this incredible person and writer. It is like feeding a hungry gator... I just want more. The book for reading is incredible, it mirrors the folk of that area of Florida. I read it a second time, and then with a borrowed audio tape at the same time.
I will continue to read and share in her writings. she is as a battery charger in my own quest. I sincerely hope her other writings are merely half as good. They are sure to keep me up all night reading them over and over. From the information I have read, Ms. Hurston spent her life in the persuit of knowledge and life, and learning and sharing her knowledge. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think so. I wish I had had the honor of meeting, knowing, studying under, having had her presence of company. Ms Zora Neale Hurston was surely one of the best writers in this USA. Please excuse any spelling or gramarical or typing errors; as I am a student and have so much to learn.
