Need help with dialogues in "Sweat"

Hey! I have to write a term paper about "Sweat" by Hurston. The problem is, that I'm not a native-English speaker and therefore can hardly understand the southern dialect in the dialogues. Is it important to understand them completely? If so, what help could you comment (books etc), since the story is not available in my language. Thanks for help! Jana
