Well, actually, i felt the same way the first time I went there. My husband knew some people who lived there, so we went to their house--they had only a vague knowledge of who she was. I was interested in finding the cemetary where her parents were buried. Come to find out--i think we were standing on it, because the subdivision they lived in was where the cemetary had been. You can get a map from the kiosk that is just on MLK st. You just have to know someone in the community who will take you to see some of the older residents who remember all this stuff. I think that is kind of nice--the community has not given itself up to commercialism. During the festival is really the only time you can go and immerse yourself in "Zora." And even then, I don't think it's very Zora like--you have to find Zora in her writing I think. It's nice to know that someone came all the way from New Orleans just to visit "her."
