Dick qualtfied 18th (field of 51) with the top 16 locked. Hornaday, K. Wallace and others (also locked out) had a qualifier to make the field. Aside from locals, only Wallace raced his way in. Trickle dropped out after 12 laps, Hornaday got bumped, and K. Earnhardt didn't even race (they all got in on promoter's "provisionals"). Before the feature, the track announcer goaded Kenny Wallace into showing the crowd his "Dick Trickle" impersonation. In the infield, Wallace mimed holding a cigarette, then lurched forward in a loose imp;ersonation of Dick's gait as the crowd hooted. Dick did, in fact, go a lap down after about 23 laps, but was running 8th when his car quit lap 210. Nathan Haseleau (ex-Trucks) won, with some rookie looking good finishing 2nd. Some mention was made about August 7 or 8 being a Madison make-up date, but Mr. Trickle said he wasn't sure.
